Vacuum Pump Refurbishment

Full mechanical rebuilds of industrial vacuum pumps at our Sutton Coldfield workshop. Suitable for older pumps where a routine service won't restore performance, or for stock-build of refurbished exchange units. Documented warranty on every refurbishment.

What is refurbishment?

Vacuum pump refurbishment is a full mechanical rebuild that takes a worn or end-of-life pump back to manufacturer-spec performance — typically including new bearings, shaft sleeves, vanes, all sealing, exhaust valves, gas-ballast valve, paint and detail, with a documented post-rebuild performance test.

Response time

2–6 weeks depending on pump size, scope, and parts availability.

Standards
  • Documented test certificate per pump
  • Warranty on every refurbishment
  • OEM-spec or OEM-equivalent parts to documented spec
What's included

What you get with refurbishment

Strip and inspect

Full dismantle and clean. Cylinder, rotor, and crank components measured against service limits — any out-of-spec castings replaced or remachined where possible.

Bearings, sleeves, and seals

All bearings, shaft sleeves, lip seals, mechanical seals, and shaft couplings replaced as standard.

All wear parts renewed

Vanes (or piston rings on rotary piston pumps), gaskets, O-rings, exhaust valves, gas-ballast valve, anti-suckback valve, and all filters.

Cylinder reconditioning

Worn or scored cylinders re-honed or re-bored where the casting allows. Replaced where wear exceeds service limit.

Paint and detail

External paintwork stripped and refinished in original or customer-specified colour. Nameplates re-fitted, branding preserved.

Performance test and warranty

Tested to manufacturer ultimate vacuum and pumping speed. Documented test certificate and warranty supplied with each refurbished pump.

How it works

From booking to handover

  1. 1

    1. Inspection quote

Pump received, dismantled, photographed, and a written inspection report issued with a fixed refurbishment quote.

  2. 2

    2. Approval

Customer approves the quote; refurbishment proceeds. If declined, the pump is returned (carriage at cost) or scrapped on instruction.

  3. 3

    3. Rebuild

Full rebuild per the agreed specification. New bearings, sleeves, seals, vanes, valves, paint, and detail.

  4. 4

    4. Performance test

Bench-tested for ultimate vacuum, pumping speed, and 24-hour continuous run.

  5. 5

    5. Return with warranty

Pump returned with the test certificate, full service history file, and a documented warranty.

When to use

When you'd typically need refurbishment

Common scenarios where customers ask for this service. If your situation isn't listed but sounds related, get in touch — we can advise.

  • Pump is 15+ years old and a routine service hasn't restored performance
  • Pump has been damaged by a process upset (water slug, particulate, oil starvation)
  • Cost of a new replacement is prohibitive for a heritage installation (Stokes Microvac, Kinney KT, Welch DuoSeal, older Edwards GV)
  • Building stock of refurbished exchange units for a service-exchange programme
  • Original manufacturer no longer offers a factory rebuild
Brands & equipment supported

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about refurbishment

A service replaces consumable wear parts (vanes, seals, filters, oil) on a sound pump. A refurbishment is a full mechanical rebuild — bearings, shaft sleeves, exhaust valves, casting checks, paint — typically on an older or harder-worked pump where a routine service won't bring it back to spec.
