Helium leak detection uses a mass-spectrometer detector tuned to mass-4 (helium) to find and quantify leaks in vacuum and pressure systems. Helium is used as the tracer because it's small enough to find tiny leaks, inert (so it won't react with the system), and rare enough in the atmosphere to give a low background signal.
